gah.

There are many different uses and interpretations of metaphors in our daily lives. We use them to communicate in a variety of different ways. For example, metaphors can be used as a distraction. In an augment you can use a metaphor to distract others from the opposite side of the argument and focus completely on your points. There are even specific types of metaphors, called conduit metaphors that are used for communication. They give meaning to words and sentences apart from their meaning in the contents. There specific types of metaphors are used when everyone involved in the conversation will understand the sentences in the exact same way. Metaphors mean difference things to people depending on their background and where they come from.

Metaphors are only partial connections between two concepts and objects. If it were a complete connection, that would be saying that the two concepts WERE each other, instead of related to each other. In most cases, more is generally considered up, and up is considered a good thing. However, sometimes there are conflicts in values, causing conflict in the metaphor they are associated with. These conflicts in values come from different priorities in subcultures; values are given priority by who you are and where you come from.

Another fact about metaphors that caught my attention was the physical aspect of metaphors. We learn a majority of our metaphorical senses through our physical values. As example of this is, up is good/happy; a smile is up, there for a smile is good. We use our physical knowledge to help us understand metaphors. Not only do we use our bodies for physical knowledge, but we also use our environment, activities, and emotions to percieve metaphors and their meanings.

Metaphors: (ugh i lost my list)
-You're a crab
-My lap top is a piece of shit
-you're being a butt
